In 1983 a group of Christian people, felt that Blackpool, because of its attraction as a sea-side mecca of pleasure and enjoyment had a hidden problem undetected by the majority of people who lived in the town, or came to the town on holiday – many hundreds of people who could not find accommodation and who found
themselves sleeping under the piers, in bus shelters, shop doorways, or indeed anywhere that offered some protection for the night – the homeless. Most were local, some had connections with Blackpool, and others came looking for an answer to their problems.

| | A street level ‘Need’ | |
| |
By going out at night and checking the obvious places where homeless people ‘huddled’ it was obvious that Blackpool had a homeless problem that needed publicising and the homeless needed help – in some cases just to get through the next day!. However there was no easy option, and accommodation facilities would take time to organise – So how to help immediately?
A bowl of Soup, bread, a cup of hot tea, biscuits, sandwiches. A warm room, a chat with friends & volunteer helpers – a ‘caring’ environment – the immediate ‘need’ is assuaged. It does not solve the problem, but it helps at the time.

We would like to thank all those who have supported the soup kitchen throughout the years by providing their time, dedication, donation of food & goods, etc. We wish the soup kitchen every success. God Bless you all.
We look forward to continuing to provide hot refreshments for those who are homeless, or ‘roofless’ under the banner of St Cuthbert’s Soup Kitchen.

Unfortunately, due to various reasons it was felt that the time had arrived for us to ‘bow out’ regarding the running of the Soup Kitchen. This will continue to be run by St Cuthbert’s Church.
I am happy to say that we will still help and support the soup kitchen by providing the soup on a Sunday/Tuesday and continue to forward any donations we receive for the kitchens.
We would also like to thank everyone at St Cuthbert’s, Clergy & Parishioners for their support and generosity over the past 24 years. Without their encouragement and understanding we would not have coped over so many years.

St Cuthbert’s Church in Blackpool kindly agreed to let us use their school hall, free of charge, so enabling the charity to open its Soup Kitchens two nights a week.
It is open to all who are in need
The sad fact is, it is still a necessity – and people are still in ‘need’
|
| |
| | Fact: | |
| |
|
It costs the charity in the region of £15 to operate each soup kitchen night.
Donations of soup, sugar, biscuits, tea-bags, etc would be greatly appreciated, either direct to St Cuthberts, Lytham Road, Blackpool, or via our charity.
